10 Essential Duas for Protection in This Life & The Hereafter

In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate. Every believer seeks refuge in Allah's infinite power and mercy. Here is a comprehensive guide to the Quranic and Prophetic supplications that serve as your spiritual armor.

1. Protection From The Evil Eye (Al-'Ayn)

The evil eye is a reality acknowledged in Islam. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “The evil eye is real…” (Sahih al-Bukhari). The greatest protection is through remembrance of Allah.

أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ

Transliteration: "A'udhu bi kalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq."

Translation: "I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created."

Source & Practice: Recite this in the morning and evening. The Prophet (ﷺ) recommended this for protection from all evils, including the evil eye and poisonous creatures (Sahih Muslim).

Additional Protection: Regularly recite Surah Al-Ikhlas (112), Surah Al-Falaq (113), and Surah An-Nas (114) three times each in the morning and evening. The Prophet (ﷺ) said these are sufficient protection against all evils.

2. Protection From Black Magic (Sihr)

Black magic is forbidden and its effects are real. The Quran provides the ultimate protection through specific verses known for breaking magic and dispelling its harm.

وَأَوْحَيْنَا إِلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ أَنْ أَلْقِ عَصَاكَ ۖ فَإِذَا هِيَ تَلْقَفُ مَا يَأْفِكُونَ

Key Protection: Surah Al-Baqarah, particularly Ayat-ul-Kursi (2:255) and the last two verses (285-286). The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Whoever recites Ayat-ul-Kursi after every obligatory prayer, nothing prevents him from entering Paradise except death" (An-Nasa'i).

Ruqyah (Healing Verses): Recite Surah Al-Fatiha (7 times), Ayat-ul-Kursi, Surah Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, and An-Nas. Blow on water and drink it or use it for bathing. This was the practice of the Prophet (ﷺ) for healing.

3. Protection From Shaitan

Shaitan whispers evil suggestions and tries to lead believers astray. Seeking refuge in Allah is our primary defense against his influence.

أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ السَّمِيعِ الْعَلِيمِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ

Translation: "I seek refuge in Allah, the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing, from the accursed Satan."

Before Reciting Quran: Always begin with: "A'udhu billahi minash-shaitanir-rajim" (I seek refuge with Allah from Satan, the accursed).

When Angry: The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "If a man gets angry and says, 'I seek refuge with Allah from Satan,' then his anger will go away" (Sahih al-Bukhari).

Before Sleep: Recite Surah Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, and An-Nas, blow on your palms, and wipe over your body. This protects throughout the night.

4. Protection From Diseases

All healing comes from Allah. While seeking medical treatment is encouraged, spiritual remedies complement physical treatment.

أَذْهِبِ الْبَاسَ رَبَّ النَّاسِ وَاشْفِ أَنْتَ الشَّافِي لَا شِفَاءَ إِلَّا شِفَاؤُكَ شِفَاءً لَا يُغَادِرُ سَقَمًا

Translation: "Take away the hardship, O Lord of mankind, and grant healing for You are the Healer. There is no healing except Your healing, a healing that leaves no illness behind."

Prophetic Healing: Place your right hand on the affected area and say: "Bismillah" (3 times), then: "A'udhu bi 'izzatillahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajidu wa uhadhiru" (7 times) - "I seek refuge in the might of Allah and His power from the evil of what I find and guard against."

General Healing Dua: "Allahumma Rabban-nasi, adhhibil-ba'sa, washfi, Antash-Shafi, la shifa'a illa shifa'uka, shifa'an la yughadiru saqaman" (O Allah, Lord of mankind, remove the hardship and heal, You are the Healer. There is no healing except Your healing, a healing that leaves no illness).

5. Protection From Poverty

While we work for sustenance, Allah is the Ultimate Provider. These supplications seek His protection from financial difficulty while encouraging lawful striving.

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْفَقْرِ وَالْقِلَّةِ وَالذِّلَّةِ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ أَنْ أَظْلِمَ أَوْ أُظْلَمَ

Translation: "O Allah, I seek refuge with You from poverty, insufficiency, and humiliation. And I seek refuge with You from oppressing or being oppressed."

Morning & Evening Remembrance: Recite "Subhanallah wa bihamdihi" (Glory and praise be to Allah) 100 times in the morning. The Prophet (ﷺ) said this erases sins and brings abundant provision.

For Sustenance: "Allahumma-ktub lana rizqan wasi'an halalan tayyiban" (O Allah, decree for us abundant, lawful, and pure sustenance). Also, frequent recitation of Surah Al-Waqi'ah is recommended for protection from poverty.
